Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats
Music has always been a huge passion of mine. Ever since I can remember, I have been listening to all types and flavors. I can remember my mothers record collection back in the 70’s that consisted of some blue grass, disco to good ol’ rock and roll. I used to sit for hours just listening to various albums, in vinyl, and enjoying enjoying every minute of it. At the age of 14 I started playing guitar - mainly to pick up girls, but as I got older my interest in music has never faded. I continually play guitar as a hobby and I continually enjoy discovering new artists play live.
One of the best new bands that I have had the great experience in seeing (several times that is), is Nathaniel Rateliff. Even though his solo career for the past several years has been exceptional, he has really hit his stride with his band The Night Sweats. Their old-school style of music reminds of those days listening to my mothers old record collection.
Last year I had the opportunity to see them in one of my favorite towns - Asheville North Carolina. The venue was this great little gem called The Grey Eagle. I new I might have an opportunity to capture some shots but I did not expect such close proximity. I have always wanted to shoot live music, but I have never tried to acquire the appropriate credentials to get in close. The music and people were the highlight of the trip and I will always remember that night as one of the best live performances I have ever seen.
If you haven’t had an opportunity to see them live, I encourage you to try and get tickets. They seem to play non-stop all over the world and have generated quite the following. Find out where they are playing next via their website: http://www.nathanielrateliff.com/tour/
And if you interested in checking them out on YouTube here is the video that got me hooked (its from 3 years ago)!
Here are some photos I captured during my evening at the Grey Eagle in Asheville, NC. Enjoy!
